About Foundations Program

The Foundations Program is a 10-month immersion for leaders ready to reinvent themselves and take their leadership to the next level.

Foundations builds skills over time with an exclusive community of leaders, blending coaching, mentoring, peer- based, experiential and digital learning.

What we cover in 10 months

The Program has 5 main domains of focus – we call these ‘Moves’

Move 1 - Ignite Innovation Through Mood

Focus: Move 1 is focused on being a leader-learner and the power of mood. You will explore how you have constructed your narratives in leadership and life and seek to understand how these shape your leadership style. This will reveal the mood from which you lead, and you will learn how to shift this for the sake of creating an environment and culture that supports expansive thinking, collaboration and above all innovation.

Outcomes: You will complete this phase of the Program with an insight into the quality of your current narrative and mood and will begin the process of deconstructing and reconstructing both. You will learn skills to shift your mood when required, shift the moods of others when they appear unconstructive, and build the capacity to use Speech Acts to cultivate collaboration, trust and conditions for innovation.

Move 2 - Habits that make your success inevitable

Focus: Move 2 is focused on cultivating habits that make your success as a leader inevitable. To begin, you will identify the times and circumstances when you’re provoked and least resourceful as a leader. You will then identify the key moments of influence, where you can bring a new routine or behaviour to life and over time, develop these as new habits that support your aspirations in leadership and life.

Outcomes: You will complete this phase of the Program with a deep awareness of the times you’re most prone to being ‘un-resourceful’ and the impact of this for you, your team and organisation. You will also design a detailed intervention, that covers mindset, physiological and mood shifts that will help you migrate towards different behaviours. These over time, become the blueprint habits for your success – however you define this.

Move 3 - Speech Acts to Coordinate Action

Focus: Move 3 is dedicated to exploring how effectively you and your team coordinate action to get things done. This exploration does not rely on systems. It identifies the coordination issues generated through unskilful communication, unclear requests, failure to reach shared understanding and the absence of conversations for accountability. You will undertake a desktop assessment of the cost of poor coordination and learn how to quickly eradicate this waste through a focus on Requests, Offers and Promises.

Outcomes: You will complete this phase in collaboration with your team, and will be mentored to ‘teach’ these skills to your direct team in order to lead a recalibration of the way workflow is communicated within your organisation. You and your direct team will complete this phase of the Program with ten discreet skills to better coordinate action through a handful of Speech Acts and a suite of conversations that transform your efficiency and effectiveness.

Move 4 - Facilitate Masterfully to Enhance Engagement

Focus: Move 4 deepens your skills in the domain of facilitation in the many forums you lead and engage in. You will identify circumstances where you’re prone to be unresourceful and transform this narrative through our focus on listening, intuiting, sensing anomalies, engaging with power and navigating politics. Ultimately, you will learn new skills to create safety and open conversations with your teams to bring about insight, possibilities and innovation.

Outcomes: You will complete this phase of the Program with insight into your provocations, biases, preferences and have a deeper sense of your relationship with power as a leader. The skills we learn will have you able to navigate tricky, political, power-driven dynamics and manage meetings and collective forums towards strategic outcomes. This further builds on a heightened sense of listening – which is key to facilitation!

Move 5 - Coaching and Mentoring to Cultivate Resilience

Focus: Move 5 further develops your capacity as a leader to cultivate talent and accountability within your teams and organisation. You will learn a more powerful orientation to ‘observe’ and ‘reflect’ on situations and the complexity of your operating environment. You will be supported to establish Team Standards to elevate results and cultivate a coaching ‘sensibility’ to explore concerns and possibilities. Your new skills will empower your team, support accountability and develop a sense of personal agency and resilience.

Outcomes: This culmination phase will leverage skills from all of the prior Moves as you guide your teams through times of growth, change and disruption. Your new practices in the coaching orientation will encourage constructive moods and behaviours within your team, supported by your powerful questioning orientation. Your toolkit from this final Move will include a vast array of questions from which you can begin to cultivate more opportunities and more personal agency from those you work with. For you, the end point promise is more confidence, presence and calm in the wake of complexity and disruption.
